Speaking of ikea hacks, i found this DIY light box hack that Im totally going to do. If you read my blog you know I use a lot of Japanese sewing books, the issue is that they require that you trace the pattern you need. Because they put at least 5 patterns on one sheet tracing can be apain in the ass, heres where a light box can and will come on handy.
Boris recycles his daughter’s old changing table into a lightbox. Love how it closes in a compact little thing.
“I made the Sniglar baby changing table into a light box. My wife, for a few years now, likes to practice sewing for our daughters. She buy a lot of books containing patterns she has to reproduce on white paper which she then uses to cut the fabric. It’s not easy to reproduce those patterns onto the paper.
As our youngest daughter is now two and a half years old, we do not need any more our Sniglar changing table, and I decided to transform it into a light table for my wife. I first thought to keep the table structure as it, but finally, I prefered to use the two level of the table to make one foldable table. I first fixed together the two vat with a long piano hinge. Then I stuck aluminium foil into the vats to reflect the light and I fixed four neon tubes into it. A few meters of cable later, I then closed the vats with two white and opaque plexiglass panels and that’s it.”

I made this dress and only wore it once this summer. It has a scalloped hem. In theory it looked cute but it was sort of strange in reality. It originally went down to my ankles but now it goes to about my knee
I ended up only wearing it once, but I haven't worn it again since I shortened it.
I didnt use a pattern on this dress wither, but i should have, the tube part of the dress was too loose and uneven.

This dress is a silk stretch. i made it before i got my serger so i had to work really hard to maintain the elasticity o the fabric, since stitched tend to break on stretch fabrics.
I never wear it with heels, usually flip flops but its a really soft breathable dress. Whats nice about the silk is that it doesnt make the print look shiny or weird. It could go tacky very quickly with blends.
I used no pattern btw. But becuase I liked the way this tuned out Im going to make one based off of tis with 5/8 seam allowances.

“UK indie rock-ers the Noisettes
might have been armed with an unapologetic, rebel blend of razor-sharp
punk, classic rock, jazz and blues that drew heavy critical praise, and
an eye-grabbing English/ Zimbabwean beauty of a frontwoman with a
background in theater and the circus and an oh-so-cool government tag
(Shingai Shoniwa), but sadly, all these elements combined weren’t
enough to draw them much commercial fortune. With a sleeker
re-formatting of their eclectic style on their latest cycle, though,
the three-piece’s luck seems about to change.”

- 4 tablespoons flour
- 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/3 cup gruyere, grated
- 1/3 cup cheddar, grated
- 1/3 cup parmesan, grated
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- Salt, nutmeg, cayenne pepper to taste
Melt
butter in a large saucepan and whisk in flour, cooking — but not
browning — for about two minutes. Gradually whisk in milk and allow
sauce to thicken, stirring often. As sauce thickens, blend the egg
yolks with one tablespoon of heavy cream and set aside.
Once the
sauce has thickened enough to coat a spoon, gradually melt in cheeses
over a low heat and season to taste. When the cheese is incorporated,
remove from heat and blend in egg yolk mixture and an additional
tablespoon of cream. Return to heat and allow to thicken, stirring
often.
